Adaptive Reuse

Babcock Building

Columbia, SC  2024

This project involved the adaptive reuse of the historic Babcock Building, which served as part of the South Carolina State Hospital complex until the 1990s. Originally constructed in the 1880s, the building is located within Columbia’s vibrant Bull Street District and features multiple wings ranging from three to four stories in height. The historic structure was thoughtfully transformed into 208 apartment units along with multiple commercial spaces, creating a vibrant mixed-use development while preserving the character and architectural significance of this important historic property.
